He was nominated for the 2012 Olivier Awards for his work on Anna Christie at the Donmar. Howard was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Lighting Designer in 2008. He has been twice nominated for Broadway's Tony Awards for Mary Poppins and Macbeth.
